July 8, 2009 Meeting

Twenty three wood workers met at 7:00 pm at Woodcraft

Treasurer Bob Middleton reported the bank account of $420.83.

President John Pickrell noted the Kuna Quilt Show on August 1 and 2. Steve Young will do a lathe demo. There may be other demos including scroll saw and carvers. This is a show that has included wood working, turning and scroll saw and carving  as well as the main attraction, quilts. It has been well attended in past years.

The August 12 meeting will be a Barbeque beginning 6:30 pm at Mike and Marleen Kingsley’s home at 4301 Bott Lane. See map below. The club will furnish meat and buns. Bring a side dish of salad, vegetable, or dessert. Also, while Kingsleys have tables they are short on chairs so bring chairs or expect to sit on the grass.

The router template set donated to the club was sold at auction to Dennis Walker for $25.00. The ROUT-A-SIGN kit didn’t get a bid at auction so was won in a drawing by Andy Landock. Dennis Walker won the gift card for the drawing. Another drawing for a rechargeable electric blower was won by Wayne Richey

Monty showed an Adirondack Chair

This chair is a copy of one in the Gamble House of Proctor & Gamble in California. It is made from Rhodesian Teak. Monty demonstrated making the ebony-like plugs that cover the screws.

John Pickrell showed a chair made from elm for the Capitol project.

Dan Huffman showed a box with inlay.

Monty showed how he made the ersatz ebony plugs in his Adirondack chair. A small amount of black dye was added to the epoxy.

Monty also demonstrated the Porter Cable dovetail jig. The jig comes with clear instructions including color-coded “recipe cards” that show every step in setup to make perfect dovetails.
