Up and Coming!

Next Meeting: April 12, 2011

Challenge for April:

The February challenge of a decorated item (in honor of the techniques taught my Molly Winton) brought a plethora of excellent entries, all in the PRO category. The top two were a bowl made by Steve and Trudy Webb and a kaleidoscope made by Susan McCoy.

The Bowl for the Feb. drawing was made by Trudy Webb, and won by Brian Lowry.

Royal Family Kids Camp

A wonderful opportunity for our club to support the community has been offered. Donations of turned items are being accepted for an auction for the Black and White Ball, which benefits the Royal Family Kids Camp. All of the money raised from the auction will go to sponsor an abused child for a week long camp in Valley County.

Idaho Artistry in Wood 2011

The Idaho Artistry in Wood show was a huge success! Special thanks to all who assisted by working at the show and to all who entered pieces for judging. For a great look at the turning pieces, follow the link below.

2011 American Association of  Woodturners

(AAW) Symposium - Exhibition
By Lyn Tozer

Our Southwest Idaho Woodturners Association has arrived! With Molly Winton's help we have selected an entry for the 2011 Exhibit at the National Symposium in St Paul.

Congratulations to Frank Lench for the selection of his tri-leg vase with it's patina finish.  We look forward to receiving our copy of the Exhibit catalog where all the entries will be pictured.

Next year when the October Issue of the national magazine comes out, let's get started setting up a procedure for selecting an entry for 2012.
Sharpen those tools and let’s give him a run for his money.

Thanks to Steve Young!

For the excellent finial demonstration and discussion. Everyone is encouraged to create a box or vase with a finial and enter it in the monthly challenge competition. This is a great way to gain knowledge and confidence so you will be more inclined to enter a piece in next year’s Idaho Artistry in Wood show.
