Challenge for June:
Travel mug or martini shaker
The bowl of the month was made by Jon Gurnett and won by Marlene Knopf
Thanks to Roy Phillips, owner of Western Big Leaf Maple in Waldsport, OR.
Roy donated a bowl blank and 2 six-packs of pen blanks for extra prizes in our drawings.
The April Challenge was anything you could drink out of.
John Pickerel won the Amateur Category with a beautiful set of turned tumblers.
Steve Young won the Pro Category and the creatively cunning category with his glasses case with hidden flask.
In our show and tell, Frank Lench brought in a natural edged maple burl bowl (I swear he used magic to get it that thin!) and a maple bowl, and John Pickerel showed off a pair of glasses cases (minus flask). Thanks for inspiring is Gents!
Tom Pratt demonstrated a great turned travel mug, which happens to be this month's challenge.
Drill the center of the 4" blank and turn it round.
Shape the inside to fit the travel mug insert.
Make the tendon to fit the mug lip.
Shape the outside as desired.
Add stain and/or finish.
Part and final finish. Simple, RIGHT? Thanks Tom!
