Letters From the President
SOUTHWEST IDAHO WOODTURNERS ASSOCIATION
The Treasure Valley Woodturner's Club
February 6, 2012
There are several important activities happening this month of February.
1. The club meeting on the 14th at 6:30 pm at Woodcraft.
2. The Mike Jackofsky seminar on Feb. 23,24, and 25th. at Woodcraft.
3. The Idaho Artistry in Wood Show on Saturday and Sunday Feb. 25th and 26th.
We have had two Saturday club sponsored demos at Woodcraft that have turned out well and was well attended by club members and the public.
Watch our web site for the next demo date at Woodcraft.
We have updated our web site and have added some links and instruction sites on turning and I encourage you to take a look on a regular basis.
I will bring some blank survey forms for those of you have not filled them out yet. We want to finish these up this month and get a survey back to the membership. This information can give me direction on where you want the club to go this year. If you care about our club, please get these filled out and get it back to me. I will recap these and get a compilation back to those who submit them. If there's a reason
you don't feel comfortable filling these out I want to discuss it with you.
We want to put together a picture directory and we have some photos, but want to close out the picture taking during the February meeting. Please coordinate with Ellis Wade and lets get this behind us so we can published the directory and get it out to all the membership.
We agreed last month to raise the club dues to $20.00/ member and $25.00 for a family membership. Please get your 2012 dues in during this meeting if you haven't yet.
We had the following new members and visitors at our club last month and expect more visitors and potential members this month from turners attending our Saturday demos.
1. George Cochran, Wilder ID
Please welcome these new members.
Steve Young will demo a lidded box this month at 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm for our club demonstration.
Rich Froehlich, Ron Lee and Micheal Kingsley are spending a lot of time with the Idaho Artistry and Wood Show Committee for our turning club so we will have a place to enter our turnings for the public to view and be judged. Please thank these members for their time, and when they need some help please stand up and be counted on. These guys will be sending out emails to you and will talk with you on the 14th. But remember
Banquet tickets deadline: February 13th
Advance Registration Entry fee to get discount: February 15th
Raffle pieces : bring on Friday with show entries
Auction pieces: bring on Friday or Saturday. If you plan to have pieces notify IAW now.
Please get on board and bring a turning to the club meeting on the 14th. It can be a challenge piece , show and tell, a screw-up, or a piece just to show the club that you do have a lathe and turn.
We can all learn from each other and who we are today, and that's what we must accept, but that's not where your going to be a year from now, so lets all grow together and help each other. If you want something critiqued, pleased see me and I will get someone to look at your work.
In closing please wear a name tag during our meetings and welcome visitors and new members.
I believe the base reason we're all together is, we love wood and we're all creative people and be thankful for that blessing.
