Letters From the President
SOUTHWEST IDAHO WOODTURNERS ASSOCIATION
The Treasure Valley Woodturner's Club
March 4, 2013
Like last month here's a couple important reminders for this month's meeting:
2013 club dues are will be accepted by our secretary at our upcoming March 12th general meeting.
Come early and get this taken care of.
Get your photo taken for new directory. (This will be a members only printed directory, No web site publishing of directory.) See Don Thompson.
We are going to print on the directory after this meeting and would appreciate everyone's picture in our directory.
Tom Turco will accept bowls on the 12th for his youth event he does yearly. Please support Tom and the great cause he looks after each year. This is a good way to have our turning enjoyment do something for the community.
Brian Malnar will head up the March 9th Saturday study session at Woodcraft.
Look at the local events section of the web site for added info.
Brian has also accepted the role of arranging our monthly membership demo's.
Thank You Brian
The Artistry in Wood was a success again this year with higher proceeds than last year. Our club was represented with class this year and last year by Rich Froehlich.
19 members out of 68 members from our club submitted entries and 10 non members entered pieces.
John Lee performed an excellent job of judging all the wood turners pieces. It wasn't an easy task and John took it very seriously and I believe we as a club really benefited from a judge with John's high ethical an moral values and woodworking talent.
Thank You John
Thanks to our new members who have joined in the last year or so for showing up with lots of quality entries.
Grandfather Rich Froehlich will give us a detailed recap during on AIW at our April mtg. Rich and spouse are going to visit family in Japan this month so we wish them a safe trip and good visit and look forward to his safe return.
We will put out a separate report with photo's on the AIW 2013 show later.
Our chapter liability insurance policy is going to be a yearly expense to the chapter from this year forward. The AAW has given us an option of two policies to secure.
The board of directors and advisory comm. will meet prior to our March 12th meeting and come to the membership with it's recommendation.
Please take time to welcome our new members :
Brian Lowery is on for the bowl exchange this month, so buy extra raffle tickets for a chance at his excellent turning and art.
Bring your show and tell pieces and hopefully those who attend the March 9th study session will bring their pieces done on Saturday.
Check with Marleen Knopp our librarian for books and DVD checkout
Every member should feel free to call me on complaints or ideas to better our club.
We still have two openings for Saturday March 9th study session.
