Letters From the President

SOUTHWEST IDAHO WOODTURNERS ASSOCIATION
The Treasure Valley Woodturner's Club
Boise Idaho
May 4, 2012

Presidents Letter:

Gardens, weeds, spraying, lawns ,spring clean-up and daily jobs may be taking you away from turning, but I sure hope we will be honored with some work from the wood you took home last month at the 8th.

Thanks to Susan's leadership skills last month all went well and I have heard nothing but positive feedback from Rich's demo on pens. Thanks to both of you and the members that brought pieces for others to look at and learn from.

Our meeting on May 8th will be a little different during the the demo time. I would like to try out having a club discussion time to answer questions about our club, turning, tools, design, wood, Woodcraft, why we turn and what the members want from the club.  Email or call me on anything you would like to be discussed.

Also looking forward to Micheal’s piece in the bowl contest.

Before that, I will demo, one way of finishing off the bottom of a bowl/vessel that Mike Jackofsky  showed us during his 3 day seminar in Feb.. After that we will show a 18 minute video on form for turned pieces.

We need to know ahead of time if anybody is going to bring wood for raffle or give away. Please let me know by email.

I plan on bringing some willow, silver maple and possibly some box elder burl for raffle but I'm not sure right now about the amount of box elder.

Don't forget that the Utah Symposium starts on May 16th  and the AAW International Show in San Jose starts on June 8th. We have members going to both shows which can only bring our club to higher level of turning understanding. Check our web site for site address info.

For those who entered in the Idaho Artistry in Wood Show this year please accept my sincere thank you for representing our club. Because of you, we were rewarded with a $500.00 gift to our club for IAW to use to further wood turning and encourage us to enter more turnings next year. Need I say more.

Micheal, Rich and Ron Lee were our horses that really pulled the load for our club this and are willing to stay on for next year. Many thanks to you three for stepping up, as this kind of commitment is what make things happen.

See you on Tuesday the 8th at 6:30PM at Woodcraft.
