Our study this month will be CANDLESTICKS  that you can use at your home or make for an excellent gift.  This an excellent beginner and intermediate turner project.

Frank is going to led the day of study with assistance from Steve.
This project has fun simple spindle work, face plate work and matching of woods study that teaches a lot about design and proportion.

There will be several examples to review and study. Height, diameter  and matching of woods will make each finished product different between turners.

I will bring a air piercing tool and show how this is done for those who want it.

Suggest the following tools and supplies:

(# 2 )  50 mm jaws and chuck  +-  1.25 to 2.75 compression.
(available lathes at Woodcraft are both 1” and 1.25 spindles,  bring adapters if you have them)
2” forester bit   (I will bring mine)
1.11” dia  or 1-1/8 inch forester bit
Jacobs chuck
sand paper
finish of your choice or finish at home.
your own safety equipment  (  face masks are requested)  but your safety is your responsibility.
Jam chuck material  3 to 4” dia and 2” thick

Roughing gouge
1/2” bowl gouge
3/8” spindle gouge
parting tool
Ruler and thickness calipers.
Special tools you like to use.

Bring or buy wood at woodcraft that will give you a  +- 4” inside diameter  for top and bottom.  Min. 2X2 x12” for stem.

The lathes available are 2- nova DVR's, 1 large power matic, 1 delta midi and one new jet 22” midi w/ variable speed
