ETHER DOME
Richard Bone
Richard
Bone's "Etherdome" is soft and
white and warm and wonderful [that
is to say, full of wonder]. Not
minimalistic to my mind or ear,
but rich in it's airiness and
simplicity -- living up to it's
title in a most "ethereal" kind of
way. The mood [which I have dubbed
peaceful elation] is coherent
throughout the album without ever
becoming monotonous thanks to
beautifully pure melodies which
are subtle but which [mercifully]
one does not need a stethoscope or
spectrum analyser to find. The
instrumentation is refreshing and
boldly unique [to me, at least,
and compared to what I have become
accustomed to hearing in the
ambient/space field, unless
"Spectral Ships" which I have not
heard yet was done in s similar
vein.]
So
homogenous, well planned, and true
to its concept is this cd that I
cannot even pick favorite tracks
from it. After numerous listening,
the entire album is still one
euphoric detour that I am looking
forward to taking again and again
-- and again!
