The multi-faceted and extremely talented
Richard Bone has done it again. Not only did
he re-invent himself _again_, but he has
produced a work that actually _waxes_ last
year's ELECTROPICA (no small feat, IMO). COXA
(which is the term for your hip-bone) is his
tribute, homage, re-interpretation of the
"cool" jazz era and of artists like Creed
Taylor and Cal Tjader. It is _fantastic!_ Hip,
cool, and so full of fun that I can't stop
playing it. From the art deco artwork to the
vibes on the CD, this is a trip to Hep Cat
Street and beyond. Yeah, baby!
This is fresh, exciting and a sure relief from
the life-is-ordinary blues. A full review will
be in issue #11 but for now, consider this two
"cool, man" thumbs up....WAY UP...for this
release. Ambient noir fans will run for cover,
but those out there who remember "original"
swing, film noir, smokey clubs, stand-up bass
and silky vibes, should glom onto this
one.
As Ben Stein says, "I bow to your Buddah
nature, Mr. Bone."
Bill
PS Despite my always-gushing praise of Mr.
Bone, I do not share in any monetary or other
rewards reaped from my praise of his work,
other than that I may have some small hand in
him continuing to produce GREAT MUSIC through
my encouragement! So there!

I just got this Cd and usually I just lurk,
but...
This CD is probably one the best discs I have
listened to so far this year. Totally
inspiring and awsome!! two big fat thumbs up
to the sky... the image and memory of "true"
jazz lives.

Amen and hallelujah!
Glad to see others feel the same way. This is
a _bitchin'_ good CD! I played "Dido" four
times yesterday. In fact, I'm gonna put it on
right now. And "What If (If What?)" is right
behind it!
Damn, Mr. B. You got your swang thang workin'!
Uh huh!
Obscuratron, the oh-so-hep

Hey, what _is_ up with track #9? I just
discovered it by accident when I didn't hit
the stop button. All of a sudden I thought,
"What the...?"
Seems Mr. Bone is chock _full_ of surprises.
He is already at work on the sequel to
SPECTRAL SHIPS and says it'll be warmer but
still very atmospheric. Cool!

Just got this via Backroads and must add my
thumbs into the fray. Some pieces have that
pop/scratch effect that gives you the feeling
of listening to it over a very old turntable
rather than a CD player. Fave track is Amorita
Dive, but the entire CD is great. The streets
are always wet with rain, the neon lights
constantly flash in your peripheral vision,
the air is thick with cigarette smoke, and the
night is cool. Your table is ready, your drink
is poured, and the band is onstage. Enter
Phase Chill. I can dig it.
Seems that Richard Bone is the real Sultan of
Swing. And looks like I'm going to have to get
Electropica NOW! BTW - the "bonus" 9th track
everyone mentions is amazing in that it
completely deviates from the cool jazz flavor
of the rest of the album, yet doesn't clash
with it. Amazing.
