TALES FROM THE INCANTINA
Richard Bone
Following the lineage of his two Hypnos
releases is the latest of Richard Bone's
ambient releases,
Tales from
the
Incantina
. Like many of Bone's releases, this one is
conceptual, a series of pieces inspired by the
ancient Toltec civilizations. Bone creates a
very warm and melodic ambient music, less
abstract and static than many of his
contemporaries, with distinct e-piano melodies
and his nearly patented ability to breathe
life from digital patches. There are eleven
pieces here, most close to the four-minute
mark, and some of the pieces, such as "Ley
Lines," are the most melodically active
ambient titles you may hear. As with any Bone
release, the music is infused with an organic
richness that adds depth to the timbres, and
one is left with the distinct feeling that
Bone fine-tunes his synthesizer tones to
ensure maximum comfort. It all adds up to yet
another mesmerizing Bone release, one
recommended to fans of Eno, Budd and A
Produce.
