ELECTROPICA
Richard Bone

Richard Bone is, I must admit, someone that I know next to nothing about. According to his press package, he is a veteran of New York City's avant garde scene, and has recorded a series of "serious" electronic works over the last few years that have been well received in more sophisticated circles than the ones I usually run in. So were it not for the bold proclamation of "Bossa Nova Lives!" on the back cover, I would likely be a little surprised to find Electropica to be so chock full of Latin rhythms. Similar to the work produced by Atom Heart's Uwe Schmidt under his Lisa Carbon & Senor Coconut aliases, Electropica fuses current electronics with the sultry Latin sounds of Jobim and Gilberto. Slap this on the hi-fi, mix yourself a margarita, and close your eyes, and you just might find tracks like "Impanema 2000" and "Pao, Baby!" transporting you to the tropicss.
