Richard Bone's been a
mainstay of the U.S. electronic underground for some time, having
released numerous CDs of passive ambient and idiosyncratic electronica
on his own Quirkworks Laboratory imprint. Now signed to the mercurial
Portland, Oregon label Hypnos, Bone has found the ideal residence to
realize his pristine, delicate soundscapes. Ambient in nature, but
highly suggestive in tone, Bone has a knack for drawing the listener
completely in to his subtle, emotive zones.
The thought provoking titles of "The Letheon Men", "Lucidity Soul" and "Plateau to
Level 30" instantly convey all sorts of tangential leitmotifs,
headstates and parallel dimensions. Using a colorful collection of
vintage synths and sundry machines, Bone's tone fugues hover
weightlessly, announce themselves with a sharp ring, and then gradually
dissipate. ETHER DOME accurately describes these wondrous sonic
creations. Bone coaxes a kaleidoscopic menagerie of aural beauty and
profound mystery out of his soundbanks.
