Piero Scaruffi's review
of:
'A Survey of Remembered Things'
Richard Bone & John Orsi
A Survey Of
Remembered Things (Quirkworks, 1997), a split
album with percussionist John Orsi, contains
some of the most interesting pieces of this
period. Chango is a psychological study in the
vein of the late Steve Roach. A Tibetan mantra
and cosmic clouds orbit around the mechanical
rhythm of The Paradigm Pool. A tender musicbox
theme rings inside the paradisiac bubble of
Evaporata. The standout is the quiet, liquid,
zen-like chamber music of Mercurial
Wave.
Bone may have
achieved here what he did not and will not
achieve in the short-song format: a celestial
choir and a romantic piano figure, coupled
with an African polyrhythm, propel Komarov's
Fire into a pop-jazz ecstasis.
